Location
Sanctorum Ecovillage is located on 40 acres of Sacred Valley land in Colorado, due East of the great Tava-kaavi, which is an indigenous (Uto-Aztecan) name for the Sacred Mountain now famously known as Pikes Peak.
Less than 30 minutes from an active airport and from Colorado’s second-largest city, Sanctorum Ecovillage is conveniently located between Boulder, Crestone and Taos, New Mexico.
In Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda names Pikes Peak as one of the only places on Earth that is comparable to the majestic Himalayan temples where he received his secret yoga initiations from the masters.
Tava-kaavi was also home to Nikola Tesla’s mysterious laboratory, where the visionary scientist conducted groundbreaking electrical experiments in search of a limitless, clean, free energy source for the world.
According to the ancient lineage of direct oral transmission, Tava-kaavi means “Mountain of the Sun”, mountain that touches Father Sky or mountain that holds up the heavens from whence the “the People” originally come.
The native traditions speak of incarnating from the stars above – and of the Creator placing them in sacred places like the summit of Tava-kaavi and Garden of the Gods at the beginning of creation.
Near its base, underground tunnel systems full of cavernous formations sprawl out from the Cave of the Winds portal, which, according to the Apache, is the home of the Great Spirit of the Wind.
In Manitou (or “Spirit”) Springs, rainbow-colored waterfalls, tall seven-stepped cascades with whirling pools of water in the cliffside and naturally healing carbonated wellsprings with flavorful mineral water all burst from the ground.
The legendary Garden of the Gods boasts an arrangement of standing monolithic stones the size of skyscrapers. Ancient petroglyphs have been found among the stones, as they have been an intertribal crossroads and sacred ceremonial pilgrimage site for many nations over thousands of years.
A reconstruction of ancient ruins demonstrates ancestral Anasazi cliff dwellings with a Kiva, alongside Adobe Pueblos and Lakota Tipis, representing great indigenous cultures of the local regions.

Yurt
This 30-foot diameter circular structure with a transparent dome at its peak is blessed and imbued with prayerful offerings and sacred geometry. As a temple space and event venue, it can comfortably fit 40-60 people at a time, depending on dancing or seating arrangements.
It has successfully been used as a martial arts dojo, yoga studio, Sufi tekke, peace temple, dance hall and even conference center.
In Mongolian a yurt is a “Ger” which means “home”. Mongolian yurts today mix in their structures, their shamanic roots and their Buddhist traditions. The most complex part of the yurt is the roof that has in the center the most important element of the yurt, the crown called “Shangyrak”. That ring of wood supports the light beams that reach the walls called “Uni”, the crown creates the skylight called Toono and that allows the entry of sun and air. This skylight is in the shape of a “Dharmachakra” or wheel of dharma (called “khorlo” in Mongolian), which is the oldest symbol of Buddhism so this skylight is called “Kohorlo Toono”.
The round shape invokes the sky and its two poles (bagana) the cosmic axis and the relationship between earth and sky
